Backpacks 4 Kids (BP4K), started as a small idea in 2013 (you know, the kind you have sitting in bed after a long day of parenting…) and has completely transformed into a successful community initiative over the last six years. Two moms on a mission to help kids in need by providing them backpacks filled with school supplies. It truly means the world that BP4K can provide the tools that children need in order to advance their education. We cannot believe this is BP4K’s 7th year supporting our local Title I schools and students! BP4K would not be where it is today without the support from our incredible community. As we continue to grow, so does our outreach and with your continued support, we hope to expand into the tri-county area. 1 backpack, 1 student. Together, we can make a difference.
Understanding the Need – What is a Title 1 school?
A “Title 1” school has a large concentration of low-income students and receives supplemental funds to assist in meeting student’s educational goals. For an entire school to qualify for Title 1 funds, at least 40% of students must enroll in the free and reduced lunch program. But the help can’t stop there. They need the ongoing support of their community to make sure their students are afforded the same chances as any other student in our county.
